Internal Promotions and New Staff Strengthen Walters Team

With the recent award of a number of major projects and a growing order book from new and repeat clients, Walters has further strengthened its management team with the appointment of three new senior members of staff and the internal promotion of a number of others.

Joining in August 2012 to further improve the companies design capability was Damian Miller, a very experienced highway designer and CAD technician, previously employed by Atkins and Swansea City Council amongst others.

In October 2012, John Griffiths joined Walters to head up the commercial front as Managing Quantity Surveyor following the semi-retirement of Graeme Proctor. John had previously held a senior commercial position within Costain where he had spent over ten successful years.

At the start of the New Year we were joined by Gavin Lockyer in the role of Contracts Manager. Gavin, who has worked for several major contractors in the south Wales area, will oversee a number of the larger civil engineering projects throughout the region.

Internal promotions within the company include Nick Rolfe who becomes a Contacts Manager sharing responsibility for civil engineering projects in the region with Gavin. Nick has been with the company since 2007 when he joined in the role of Project Manager to oversee the construction of the £20 million Ffos Las racecourse development.

Also promoted to Contracts Manager with particular responsibility for earthworks and major highway schemes is Paul Baker. Paul joined Walters directly from university and has been with the company for over 15 years. Successful projects Paul has been responsible for include the new Centre Parcs at Woburn, the widening of the M1 between Junctions 10–13 and the Weymouth Relief Road.

Longstanding Walters stalwart, Don Thomas, has also moved from Contracts Manager to Operations Manager where he will be available to offer the benefit of his many years of experience across the whole range of Walters operations.
