Cancer Research to Benefit from Mammoth Hike

Andrew on the Taff TrailCongratulations go to Andrew Whinney of Penarth who has raised over £600 for Cancer Research UK by walking the entire 55 mile length of the Taff Trail in a single day! Andrew is the son of Walters Director, Tim Whinney and the board of Walters were pleased to have been involved in this mammoth challenge by providing Andrew with some much needed sponsorship.

Andrew, who is a 20 year old university student, started walking the route at Brecon at 5.00am and finally made it to the end of the trail in Cardiff Bay at 1.30am the following morning.

“Once it got light, the first 23 miles in the Brecon Beacons was beautiful” said Andrew, who allowed himself just one half hour break for lunch.  “After 35 miles it began to hurt a bit, and the last 10 miles was really hard!  I didn’t dare stop, as I would never have been able to get going again”

Andrew would like to say a big thank you to Walters and all of his friends who sponsored him so generously and a huge thank you to sister, Jenny, for tracking his progress and coordinating the supply of sandwiches.  Andrew also wants to thank his friend, Scott, for supporting him (literally) for the fifty fifth mile.  If anyone would like to add a donation, they can do so via Andrew’s page on www.justgiving.com or by texting DREW55 £1 to 70070.
